The V&A has appointed Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), together with Studio Adrien Gardère and Austin-Smith:Lord, to lead the design of an innovative new collections and research centre planned for Here East in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The project forms part of a wider Olympic legacy collaboration alongside other world-leading cultural and educational institutions. Through learning activities and public programmes, the centre aims to engage both general audiences and professionals.
The V&A Collection and Research Centre will house the museum’s extensive collection in a new model combining storage and public display. Designed from the inside out, V&A Here East will evoke an immersive cabinet of curiosities, a three-dimensional sampling of the museum’s eclectic artefacts, incorporating spaces dedicated to research, object study, workshops, and operational functions.
The proposed museography will offer visitors, researchers, and staff new ways to engage with the richness and potential of the V&A’s national collections and archives.
